Va. Agribusiness Council Applauds Economic Impact Study
The results are in! Over $79 billion in annual economic impact is attributable to agriculture and forestry in the Commonwealth confirming that agribusiness is its leading industry. A new study released this week by Governor Tim Kaine demonstrates that every job in agriculture and forestry-related industries results in another 1.5 jobs in the Virginia economy. "This recognition of our industry's significant economic impact is a tribute to the farmers, foresters, and agribusinesses throughout Virginia ," said Charlie Wood, Chairman of the Virginia Agribusiness Council. "Not only are the beneficial impacts felt economically, but also on society and in our environment," he added.
Council President Donna Pugh Johnson stated, "To maintain Virginia 's business-friendly climate and its economic growth, it is important that we continue to advance the business interests of agriculture and forestry producers, processors, manufacturers, retailers, and suppliers. The study clearly illustrates the importance of agribusiness to all Virginians."
