1 Year

Matt & Will are officially turning 1.
One year ago today, Jon and I headed off to a Dave & Tim concert, a campaign event for Obama. We had the best night and then before we knew it... we were at the hospital. My water broke.

And the rest is history. I am excited that Matt & Will are turning one. It is a big day for them.

But this weekend, I kept looking at Jon and saying, "can you believe it? We made it! 1 whole year with 3 kids, 3 and under." 3 kids in diapers half that time... over 3000 bottles, 3700 diapers. We have made it. We have survived. It's been wonderful... a bit crazy, but wonderful. And we made it. I think this year was just the first test of many thousand, but I feel accomplished!

Happy Birthday Matt! Happy Birthday Will!

Our "camping weekend"

In August, it sounds like a great idea to go camping when it is cooler (not cold), leafs changing and why not in the mountains... well come Mid-October it is RATHER COLD in Alleghany County!
We did have a great time visiting with lots of family. Matt, Will and I stayed with Alice & Earl and Jon and Charlie camped with Linda/Ken at Douthat State Park. We all got out and about. Had a great dinner with the Brown's, Kolkhorsts and Higgins and also saw the Wood's on Sat. Sunday night we had dinner with the Sharrer's who came up to Douthat as well.

You can see, Matt rather made himself at home while Casey wondered who these intruders were...

Folk Festival

We packed up the crew yesterday and headed to the Folk Festival yesterday. It was such a pretty day, and it's a really cool event. There are 4 stages + the kids area, and different bands practically every hour.

Minus losing our keys and then having them returned, it was lots of fun. Thankful for the good karma....

Converted 2 more

Well, it turns out we've converted 2 more kids to Mexican Food Lovers. Matt and Will now love Friday night Mexican nights too and have been chowing down on Cheese Quesadillas.
Both Matt & Will are loving real food and chowing down. When I say chowing down, I mean CHOWING DOWN.
Jon and I have a few ideas for how to handles this. Either we start eating less (and a lot less) or pick up another job! they are bonkers for food. Some of their loves (and see if you notice a theme):

  • Quesadillas
  • Cheese Pizza
  • Pasta (3 Cheese Tortellini)
  • Cheese Sticks
They also like bananas (Matt more than Will), yogurt, cheerios, green beans, chicken, burritos. You name it. I am afraid to introduce them to any sweets as Charlie is an addict. We have tried to curb this addiction, but he loves his ice cream and cookies!

Charlie's latest hobby

Charlie loves taking pictures these days. Ahh, the benefits of a digital camera. Immediate erase = no development cost!
Here are some of his better shots:

Batman

Charlie has never seen Batman or read a Batman comic book, but he loves Batman and wanted to be Batman for Halloween. He is thrilled with his costume and loves wearing around the house.

We're moving

Where, we don't know!

Jon and I bought our house at Marilea just about 5 years ago. Closed the week before Thanksgiving. Even in the fall, with the leaves on the ground, we fell in love with the character of this house. There is something about this place, that we just love. It has been so cool to be a mile from the River, living in the city and have such a huge private yard. I love looking at my office window and watching the birds & crazy squirrels, looking out at the sky at night through the bathroom window or when I am feeling lazy, watching the leaves fall.

In our earlier days, we enjoyed all the "projects" including the wallpaper removal - room by room, the painting, the decorating of nursery and then the big boy room for Charlie. We updated our basement, outfitted a laundry room and added new fixtures. We built a fence and have seeded, and reseeded and planted and mulched.

We are now in need of something that better fits our needs, so we decided to put a plan in place. After interviewing realtors, we had a call that one would like to show our house. Well, the rest is history. I do not want to jinx ourselves, but we are well on the way to selling.

I am now trying to follow my friend Betsy's advice and believe that the next place is out there, that by visualizing and getting a better idea of my wants, the energy will return itself to me. So until that happens, we don't know the plan. I am a getting a little sentimental about leaving Marilea, but excited for the next phase.

Oh Memories...
