Meeting the hokie bird

Jon took the kids with Grandma K, to meet the Hokie Bird live in person this week at Disco Sports. He was in town for Sarah Marshal's new Hokie book. It was a lot of fun with ice cones and a jumpy tent.

Meanwhile I visited Minnesota for work. It was a good work week and I also took
The opportunity to work out, read (2 books!) and listen to music, things that don't happen much even on vacation with this crew. Business trips now have a new purpose :o)

1st words

Matt has been talking for months. In fact, he may have been born talking. His language has not been one that I knew, up until recently.

But now, the English language is becoming more prevalent.
Of course, Momma, Daddy have been used for a while and then Greta.
But of late, he has had added Truck, Duck and Shoe. It would be interesting if 1st words or a predictor of later occupation or interests. Charlie's 1st word outside of Momma, Daddy was Ball...

We are still waiting to see what Will has to say about all of this...

Conversations

Our typical morning routine includes getting everyone dressed & ready, fed and out the door. Most days I help Jon carry the kiddo's out and put in car seats, etc. This morning, the crew is headed to Lewis Ginter for the water fountains and then Charlie is spending the night out with Grandma.

I asked for an extra kiss since I wouldn't see Charlie the rest of the day, to which he reminded me he will be in my dreams and in my heart...
Ahh, what a kid.

the 1st center of our world

Greta just turned 10 June 27. It is hard to believe that 10 years ago, Jon and I were celebrating our 1st anniversary and just beginning to think maybe we should start thinking about what it would be like... one day... very, very, very far away what it would be like to have kids.

Well, what better way than to start with a dog. Unlike your children (LOL ;o), you can pick your dog's genes, parents & parenting skills and hopefully temperment. We wanted a very relaxed, chill dog that would love the water, the beach and would be fabulous one day with kids. We lucked out - you can try to pick, but you never really know what you are going to get.
Greta has been called lots of things over the year, Frisbee Champion, Chill, Relaxed - we think she is the Best dog ever but know we are biased.

We entered the journey of being dog parents together with some of our dear friends. Hogan and Foster both joined the world in the summer of 2000 too. Over the years, we have had lots of fun going places together and taking care of each other's dogs. It makes today a very sad day as Foster passed away last night. Today makes me wish for our younger years... for all of us.

18 month appointment, well at 21 months

Matt & Will had their check up this week on Wednesday following a sick visit on Tuesday.
This picture is actually taken at their sick visit and as you can see, they are in pretty good moods :)
Poor Will had an ear/sinus infection that we didn't even know - took him in for suspected & confirmed pinkeye.

For their well visit, they checked out great. They have hit a growth spurt with height, about 33 & 34 inches - Will is almost an inch and a half taller. As Mom says, maybe Matt has my genes and Will has Jon's for height - or maybe Will just hit a growth spurt before Matt.

Charlie's 4 year appt

Charlie had his 4 year apt today. Mindboggling that he is 4, but he grew 3 1/2 inches in the last year! He is doing great minus the 3 shots and finger prick... a couple of stickers and a chocolate chip cookie after lunch helped.

Independence Day

We had a crazy busy weekend celebrating Jon's birthday at the pool, visiting friends at the boat club and going to the River in Claremont.

Matt and Will had their first boat trip on the 4th and quite enjoyed it. Relaxed enough to take a catnap. Charlie also had his first golf-cart ride and made new friends at the River. It's always a nice place to be for the 4th of July. Lots of celebrations among friends and you can watch the fireworks up and down the river. Pretty cool. We are all now barricaded in the house to avoid the 100+ degree weather this week.

Charlie cooling off at the river. He loves swimming and has been put in the advance swimmer group at camp this summer.

BUSTED LIPS

Poor Will. Is 20 months or 2 the top age for busted lips? He took a stumble on the deck and busted his lip pretty good. This is right afterwards.
No, that is not watermelon juice down his belly.

Opposite Directions

It is seeming that more and more, our pictures of Matt and Will (where we can get them both in the same picture), have them going in opposite directions. In a way, although this is very challenging, especially when there is only 1 adult with 2 legs. However, it also keeps them out of each other's hair. That is getting to be another challenge.

Will has the ball, Matt wants the ball. Matt has the truck, Will wants the truck.

Is the answer to have 2 of everything?
insist on sharing everything? or
put them in different rooms when they are playing with their favorite toy?
I am looking for answers. Please feel free to comment!

It is getting more and more challenging to raise 2 boys that are both 20 months old at the same time, and then throw in a 4 year old. I'm hopeful that the bite marks don't leave scars that will forever record these moments in time and that the hair grows back where it's been pulled out by the handful.
